John McGlennon has lived, worked and volunteered in our community for more than 35 years. He has served on the James City County Board of Supervisors for 14 years. Due to redistricting, he is now seeking election as Roberts District Supervisor. He has been recognized as a strong voice for citizens, whether fighting against an unneeded traffic light on Jamestown Road or another shopping center adding congestion to Monticello Avenue.
Currently John is a member of the Board of Directors of the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail and of Olde Town Medical Center. His colleagues across the state have recognized his leadership skills in selecting him to serve on the executive committee of the Coalition of High Growth Communities, where he has fought for legislation to give local governments more power to manage growth. He has been chairman of the Legislative Committee of the Virginia Municipal League and President of the Virginia Transit Association.
John and his wife Terry live in Rolling Woods. Their two sons, Andrew and Colin, are both graduates of Williamsburg-James City Public Schools and Andrew is a recent graduate of the College of William & Mary, where Colin is a sophomore. Terry is an educator in the Newport News Public School System.
As Professor and Chairman of the Department of Government at William & Mary, John teaches and conducts research on state and local governments.
